The Blackwater River Foundation was established to achieve the following objectives:

1.  Advance the knowledge of the Blackwater River ecosystem including upland drainage areas and the estuariene and marine portions of Blackwater Bay.

2. Identify, preserve and restore cultural resources.

3. Educate the public concerning natural and anthropogenic processes.

4. Develop methods to reclaim, protect, preserve and restore any portion of the Blackwater River ecosystem.

5. Develop methods to conserve open space for public enjoyment and cultural enrichment.

6. Sponsor workshops, seminars and other gatherings to suggest or develop solutions to environmental problems.

7. Apply for grants, endowments, and any other funds given to nonprofit entities and using those moneys to conduct scientific research and educational programs not inconsistent with the Foundation's nonprofit, tax exempt status.

8. Enter into contracts with federal, state, county, or municipal governments, or any private corporation or individual to study, conserve, protect, and restore any portion of the Blackwater River ecosystem.

9. Operating in any other manner for charitable and educational purposes that will qualify it as an exempt organization under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1986.
